Sterilization - A procedure making a person permanently (usually) unable to reproduce.
Semen - The fluid through which the sperm travels in order to impregnate a woman. Semen is released from the penis during male orgasm. Semen is manufactured by the prostate and seminal vesicle among other sex glands. Sperm are made solely by the testicles.
Vasectomy - A male sterilization procedure requiring the man's vas deferens to be sealed. This blocks sperm from entering into the man's ejaculate.
Spermacide - A contraceptive substance that kills sperm.
STDS - Sexually transmitted disease.
Syphilis - A sexually transmitted disease caused by a microscopic organism called a spirochete.
Tampon - A sponge-like barrier used to stop blood from leaving the vagina during menstruation.
Testicles - A pair of male sex glands that produce sperm. The testicles are located under the penis in a pouch called the scrotum. The testicles are also referred to as the testes or gonads.
The Pill - Layman's term for any type of hormonal contraceptive in pill form.
Uterine Lining - Also called the endometrium, the uterine lining is the inner layer of the uterus.
Uterus - The uterus, also called the womb, is located in the lower abdomen and is the female sex organ that stores the fetus during pregnancy. The uterus consists of the corpus, the upper portion of the uterus, and the cervix, which is the lower portion of the uterus.
Vagina - The vagina extends from the bottom of a woman's cervix to the outside of the body. The vagina is made up of the anterior vaginal fornix (the front of the vagina) and the posterior vaginal fornix (the rear of the vagina).
Vas Deferens - A tube that connects the testes, which produce sperm, to the urethra, which delivers both semen and urine to the exterior of the male body.
Vasectomy - The sterilization of a man by severing the left and right vas deferens thereby preventing sperm from leaving the body.
Womb - Another name for the uterus.
