Britney stayed in the Malibu rehabilitation center for about two months. When she left her manager announced that she had successfully completed the treatment program and was prepared to continue her music career. But negative media attention was quick to resume as Britney as the legal battle between Kevin Federline over custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James heated up. As the legal proceedings continued, so did her odd behavior. including attacking a member of the paparrazi with an umbrella.

In late 2007 it was announced that Spears would share custody of the children with Federline but not without condtion. She was to undergo random drug and alcohol screenings and ordered to attend parenting skills counseling.

As was now becoming a pattern, Britney again became one of the nation's most talked about celebrity stories by hitting a car and driving away from the scene of the accident. She was driving without a license.

In October of 2007 Britney Spears lost all custody of Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James. She was formally charged with the hit-and-run and may face up to a year in jail. Legal proceedings will being in 2008.

To further embarrasment to the entire Spears family, the mother of Britney Spears and Jamie Spears was working on a book prior to the announcement of Jamie Spears pregnancy and during the series of bizarre behavior by Britney Spears. The book, with the working title of Pop Culture Mom, is a memoir of Lynne Spear's experience in raising children in the spotlight. Presumably the book would have detailed success in parenting two famous children. According to the publisher, the release of the book has been delayed indefinitely.
